Autumn is a wonderful time of year to get active. Where the summer heat can sometimes be unbearable for outdoor activity, the cool breeze of autumn is very inviting! There are many activities in the Barrie area that you and your family can take part in.
A great source for finding activities in Barrie is the Recreations page on the City of Barrie website. Listed here are all of the programs that are offered at the local community centers and parks. The fitness page has a wealth of interesting programs to help you get fit and stay healthy, as well as important information about facilities.
The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event is another great way to get outside, get fit, and help out the community. Sponsored by the Women and Children’s Shelter of Barrie, this event requires that all participants (men, women, and children) walk a mile in high-heeled shoes! But as seen on this website, it is apparent that people who have flat-footedness are to wear shoes designed exclusively for them before participating in the event. Last year, the organization was able to raise $25,000, and this year they are hoping to top that with a goal of $35,000. The event takes place on October 20th, and all proceeds benefit the shelter’s school workshops on conflict resolution and healthy relationships.
Fall is a very active time. With such an array of activities in our local area, it’s easy to get outside, get active, and stay healthy!
